Tired of acne scars blemishing your face? Are you looking for a wrinkle solution or dermal filler that lasts for up to 5 years?

Over time, a loss of collagen (a protein that contributes to skin strength and elasticity) in the dermal layer, shrinking cells in the subcutaneous fat layer, and facial movements can all lead to facial wrinkles. And then there’s acne, which can leave scars behind too.

Dr. Cabrera offers Bellafill to deal with these issues.

Bellafill injections to the face may support collagen production and contribute to a younger appearance.

Effects of the dermal filler Bellafill are designed to last for five years.

What Is Bellafill?

Formally called Artefill, Bellafill is an injectable dermal filler FDA-approved for the correction of nasolabial folds/smile lines (lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth) and for certain, severe acne scars on the cheeks.

How Does Bellafill Injections Work?

Bellafill is made of collagen gel and polymethyl methacrylate microspheres. It also contains lidocaine to prevent discomfort during your injections.

The collagen fills smile lines and scars and is eventually absorbed by the body. Polymethyl methacrylate encourages collagen production, specifically, collagen type 1 and type 3. Type 1 collagen plays a significant role in strengthening tissue, and type 3 collagen helps with healing. The collagen is provided by fibroblasts, which grow around the microspheres.

The effects of Bellafill may include smoother-looking skin and reduced appearance of acne scars.

Are Bellafill Injections for Me?

Bellafill injections are used on patients over 21 years of age for facial acne scars (perhaps sunken scars) and nasolabial folds.

It’s also used for addressing eye bags, filling the lips, treating nose bumps, and curving the chin.

Dr. Cabrera will help determine if you are a candidate for Bellafill injections, which involves a skin test.

You may not be an ideal candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with certain allergies like bovine collagen allergies or conditions like bleeding disorders should not receive the injections.

What to Expect From Bellafill Injections

The protocol may take up to an hour, depending on the area(s) being treated. You’ll likely see instant effects.

You can return to your typical schedule after the injections. Side effects may resolve within days or a week, and include discoloration, swelling, and pain at the injection site. Dr. Cabrera will discuss other side effects to be aware of during your appointment.

Will I Need Additional Injections?

To realize the full effects, you may need another round of injections about six weeks after your initial treatment.

The effects of Bellafill may last up to five years, and up to a year for acne scars.
