What is Sculptra Aesthetic?
Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA approved injection for smile lines, marionette lines (also known as laugh lines), and chin wrinkles.
It is made from a substance, poly-L-lactic acid, that is gradually absorbed by the body. Sculptra is injected into the part of the skin where you naturally produce collagen, the dermis. The poly-L-lactic acid encourages your body to produce more of its own collagen. Using your body’s own collagen gives you a more youthful, natural look.
Sculptra is not a filler. It stimulates the body to make more of its own filler… natural collagen.
What is Sculptra Used For?
Sculptra is most often used for:
- Smile Lines – The lines that seem to connect the nose to the corners of your mouth.
- Marionette Lines – Aka Laugh Lines. They are the lines that extend down from the corners of your mouth.
- Chin Wrinkles – The lines or dimples on the chin that begin to appear with age.
Why Choose Sculptra Over Other Treatments?
There are a number of wrinkle and collagen treatments available throughout the Ft. Lauderdale region, so why choose Sculptra Aesthetic?
Sculptra vs. Collagen Creams
Since creams are topical, their benefits do not make their way all the way to the dermis. The dermis is where natural collagen is produced. Results are short-lived with collagen creams, and the cream often needs to be applied twice per day. Sculptra results can last for more than two years.
Sculptra vs. Fillers
Collagen fillers, like Juvederm, fill in the areas that used to have natural collagen in them. Juvederm does produce more immediate results than Sculptra, however, its effects are shorter-lived. Sculptra may also be a better fit for you if you like the idea of volumizing with your body’s own collagen.
Sculptra vs. Surgery
When it comes to surgery, potential complications and risks increase. Sculptra is a much less invasive option for someone looking for natural results with no recovery period.
Is Sculptra the Right Choice for You?
You’re likely an ideal candidate for Sculptra if…
- You don’t want to completely change your look. You want to look like a younger version of you.
- You don’t want to plan your life around your treatments. You want long-lasting results.
- You don’t feel like you’re aging. But when you look in the mirror, those smile lines, laugh lines, and chin wrinkles just keep deepening.

What to Expect with Your Sculptra Treatments?
If Sculptra is determined to be the right treatment method for you, Dr. Cabrera will first use a numbing cream or local anesthetic to minimize discomfort during the treatment.
He will then inject the poly-L-lactic acid beneath the surface of the skin. Over time, the substance is absorbed and encourages the body to produce more of its own natural collagen. Because of this, results may not be immediate, but you will end up with a more natural look. You will still look like you… but you from a few years ago.
Typically, patients need to have three treatments over the course of a few months. After those three treatments, results can last for more than two years.
After Your Appointment
Immediately following the treatment, the doctor will massage your face to encourage an even distribution of the poly-L-lactic acid. To promote the most natural-looking results, you are encouraged to massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days following your appointment.
It is also recommended that you ice the treated area in the 24 hours following your appointment.
24 hours after the treatment, you are typically free to resume your normal activities. There is no recovery period. Most patients are even able to apply makeup a few hours following the treatment.
Are There Any Side Effects to Sculptra Aesthetic Injections?
The most common side effects of Sculptra treatments are minor swelling and redness. To minimize these effects, you are encouraged to apply an ice pack to the treated area in the 24 hours following your appointment. You are also advised to stay out of the sun as much as possible in those first 24 hours.
Other side effects may include tenderness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching, and lumps.
